Testimonials: Sciatica

My physical health problems started in 1997 when I was in a car wreck. I had symptoms of whiplash within two weeks of the accident. Also, I fell off a boat in 1998 onto concrete pavement resulting in a brain fracture. I dealt with these two issues for more than 6 years going to two different doctors and the Morris Clinic. I also took many kinds of drugs to help with pain management. For instance, I have taken, Wellbutrin, Prozac, Celebrex, and Flexeril to help me cope with everyday life and my job of teaching.
Last November, 2003, I hit a dear head on. This resulted in me having to deal with more pain in my right leg (called sciatica) for a whole year. I could not sleep and my life became hell. I changed jobs because I could not deal with the pressures that were placed upon me.
Since I have been going to Dr. Davenport, almost all my pain in my leg has gone away and I am able to sleep better. Before seeking his help, I had tried alternative touch therapy and changed my diet, eliminating wheat and oats, yet with no success. I have been seeing Dr. Davenport for about 9 visits and can’t believe the drastic change in the elimination of pain in my leg. I had given up hope and felt like just not even trying to keep working or anything. Thank you, Dr. Davenport for giving me hope again.

My first visit with Dr. Jeff was on July 14, 2008. My son whom had known him for several years recommended him to me. On my second visit after the x-rays and muscle scans, Dr. Jeff was very honest with me and said he could not fix my problems, but could keep me comfortable.
When I came for my first visit I could hardly walk, I was having extreme pain radiating down my right leg. This was a constant pain when I walked, sat and laid down. I was not getting a good night sleep due to the extreme pain.
Dr. Jeff told me on my second visit he would try to get me on the scale to 25 points, but only after four weeks I was on the scale at 48.98 points, almost twice what I should have been due to my condition. I understand this might not happen to everyone, but I recommend giving it a try.
Just after five weeks treatment, I am able to play in the floor and get up without pain with my four-year-old grandchild. I can go to my job without having a heating pad in my chair constantly and the main point is a good night sleep and feeling energetic all day.
I was being treated by a chiropractic 20 years ago and being relocated to the Athens area. I did not continue to be treated until I finally had to seek help, knowing and hoping I would get some relief.
I would and have recommended Dr. Jeff to anyone who needs his help.

While “lifting and twisting” doing yard work, I felt a dull pull in my lower back, about two inches below the belt line. For a few days there was very little pain, but I began to feel some intermittent sensation down the back of my right leg which became more severe over time; additionally, after standing for 2-3 hours while ushering University of Georgia basketball games I would develop a sharp pain in the lower back which was relieved only by sitting or laying down. Both symptoms worsened over a period of 8-9 months and, because of the severity of the sciatic pain, my daily running had gone from 5 miles to less than a mile; I had turned into a “walker,” the antithesis of a runner; even my walks were becoming painful. Additionally, I was contemplating giving up my volunteer ushering, an activity I greatly enjoyed.
At first I tried stretching and strengthening exercises to correct the problem, along with over-the-counter pain medication before seeking medical help. My family doctor prescribed an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxer, which provided little relief. An MRI was ordered after my second visit; however, the test was not approved by my health insurance company which wanted me to visit a neurosurgeon. When discussing my situation one Sunday at church with a friend who is a Physician’s Assistant, I leared that the “MRI shows the surgeon where to cut,” and that a lot of my friend’s patients had been helped by Chiropractors. I was already reluctant to see a surgeon as my wife has had two back surgeries and is facing another.
After my very first treatment with Dr. Davenport, I was able to stand for a required 3-4 hours ushering basketball games with absolutely no pain developing in the lower back. Following a series of visits over a two month period, I am now back to my normal running schedule with no sciatic pain! I am training for a half-marathon road race and am looking forward to next fall’s basketball season. My experience with chiropractic treatment has been very successful and I strongly urge others to consider utilizing its services prior to seeing more drastic means of treatment.

My problems started a long time ago with an injury that happened at work. I lifted a box the wrong way and severely sprained my back. I was later diagnosed as having a pinched nerve in my lower back. This caused numbness and tingling in my right leg and lots of pain as well. When my back was at its worse, I had a hard time just walking. It is hard to walk when your leg is numb. Something as simple as rolling over in bed was painful. Also, I had migraine headaches. . I have been dealing with headaches all my life; whether from mental stress or other things. I was given drugs to take care of the pain. My life would be put on hold until my migraine would ease up. And I was having at least two per month and regular headaches at least every day. Usually I would wake up with a headache. All of the doctors that I went to would just give me more pills for my headaches and sometimes the drugs would make me feel even worse. As for my back, I was not ready for surgery yet.
I have always heard lots of good things about chiropractic care and I understood the principle of it, so I figured: “What could it hurt?!” I didn’t want to take pills for the rest of my life. So, I made an appointment at Davenport Family Chiropractic and was immediately put at ease by Dr. Jeff and his friendly staff. I started going in regularly for adjustments. After the first adjustment, I knew that things were going to be better. I had no stiffness in my neck and no headache when I woke up the next morning. As for my lower back pain, it is getting better as well.
It is so nice to be able to move and not have pain and stiffness. I can only imagine what I will feel like when I am back up to 100%. I know one thing, I will continue with my adjustments in order to maintain my optimum health. I never want to feel like I did before I started my treatment. Now I can enjoy life pain-free and drug-free!
Thank you, Dr. Jeff and staff at Davenport Family Chiropractic!
